Alright, time to admit that I have been terrible the last two weeks. Once classes got going the days have just been going by very quickly.
11 March
I met Yolanda and Saniego for breakfast at a very popular spot near my house. It is a very local kind of place. It is a small Fonda filled with picnic tables and you just fit where you can. It’s the kind of place that opens at 5am and just stays open until they run out of food. We had tried going there before, but arriving at 11am was still too late. Bars here stay open until 4am and later, so if you go early, you see all the people that haven’t gone to sleep yet. We sat in front of a group of people probably my age. When our dishes came, they couldn’t help but comment, “You’ve been in Mexico a while now. Tourists don’t order that food.”
We then headed to the Museum of Contemporary Art of UNAM. I’ve been to that museum before, when I was in Mexico in 2010. And I had roughly the same reaction. We didn’t have much time there and Yo and I headed down south to meet Laura and Greg and some of their friends at their apartment.
We all met there and headed to Xochimilco for a day on the lake on a trajinera. The weather was lovely with sun and breeze. We went to celebrate Laura’s birthday and her childhood friend Mariana’s birthday.
Week of March 13
My second week of classes went fine. On Thursday I had class and then Yolanda and I met up with two girls who are friends of one of Yolanda's friends. They wanted to meet to practice their English. Then Yo and I went to our writing class. After class, we met Saniego, Laura, and Greg as a last hurrah. After two years, Greg is heading back to the States so we all wanted to hang out one last time.
18 March
I headed up north to Roma to hang out at a coffee shop and work on somethings. I then met Yo and Saniego at a Wok restaurant for lunch. After that I headed south to Coyoacan.
19 March
I slept in, but then had to clear out of the apartment for Marisa this afternoon. Right now I am hanging out at Yo and Saniego's apartment for now. Both of them are fighting colds, so here I am hoping that I don't get sick haha.
