27 January 2017

This morning I headed over to Yolanda and Saniego's apartment for an early breakfast with them and their new friend Chac. Saniego made his New Mexican atole recipe (kind of like a cream of corn) and Chac made a Mayan recipe with nopal (cactus), ground almonds, and coconut milk. It was lovely in the sun coming in their new apartment.

Yo and I then went to a government building to get an official copy of my Mexican birth certificate. Surprisingly we were in and out of there within 9 minutes!

From there we went to a gallery called Centro De La Imagen. There was a video presentation that Saniego lended his voice for. From three rooms away you can hear him yelling, haha! Then we walked to the Biblioteca de Mexico (Library of Mexico) which is an enormous complex with incredible furniture and we walked in the first room we saw which happened to be for the visually impaired. We asked a few questions to the receptionists and they gave us a whole history of Braille and instructions how how to write it. We we're even given a few pop quizzes! It was very informative! She really emphasized how to make things culturally more inviting of the visually impaired. For example, there are long grooves in the ground at metro stations are meant for people using the white cane. The etiquette is to make sure those paths are clear and to always ask if they need help before touching them. It was all common sense things but it is good to hear.

Since we got this long tour of that section of the library, we didn't have a chance to visit the rest of the library! We will definitely be going back there. I then went back to Marisa's apartment to gather my things to stay the night at Yolanda's apartment tonight. I am working on this blog post from their kitchen table from my iPad so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors.

Here's a candid of me actually working on this blog post.

Also here's a picture from earlier on in the week!
